Harley Davidson Dyna Overview

Harley Davidson's Dyna motorcycles are larger than the Sportsters, using big-twin engines to offer additional thrust to owners. And rather than the Softails' rigid-mounted engine, the Dynas' engines are rubber-mounted. In 2006, this line of motorcycles was upgraded to include 6-speed Cruise Drive transmissions (prior to 2006, they used 5-speed gearboxes). With the introduction of Harley's Fat Bob, the Dyna series now includes 6 different models that have captivated fans with their smooth, versatile ride. The line-up now includes the Super Glide, Super Glide Custom, Street Bob, Low Rider, and the celebrated Wide Glide 105th Anniversary Edition.

Under The Hood

All 6 of the Dyna bikes use 1584cc air-cooled Twin Cam engines to offer extraordinary power to the rider. The Fat Bob is the frontrunner with dual headlamps, a 5.1-gallon tank, and a 63.8 inch wheelbase. It also comes with full metal jacket shocks in the rear and a double barrel exhaust system. A hefty 130mm front wheel and 180mm back tire gives the Fat Bob a formidable appearance.

Of Harley's big-twin engine bikes, the Dyna Super Glide is the most affordable. But, the comparatively low price doesn't mean power or smooth handling has been sacrificed. The same engine and chassis is present and the solo seat ensures nimble maneuverability. And even though the Super Glide Custom is adorned with the Fat Bob fuel tank, it handles like a lean, menacing bike.

For riders who prefer simplicity over bells and whistles, the Street Bob offers a design enjoyed by minimalists. Ape hanger handlebars, a low seat and a black, polished powertrain make the Street Bob an elegant, yet subtly ominous-looking bike. The Dyna Low Rider brings the seat to 25.8 inches from the pavement. With its mid-mount foot controls and low rear shock absorbers, it's known for providing long comfortable rides with sustainable power.

The Wide Glide 105th Anniversary Edition was offered in a limited run during 2008. It looks like a traditional chopper, oddly timeless in its nostalgic appearance. It comes with a bobtail fender and forward foot mounts. With a characteristic copper and black paint job, and mini ape hanger handlebars, it seems in a class by itself.
